Do You Think About your First Full-time Job?
Posted by Elite VAs on May 29, 2007
Well, my son graduated high school Sunday evening! It was a beautiful evening and many of his family and friends were there to share it with him.
This morning, he got up, got ready, and started his full-time job for the summer. It’s his first full-time job and I am excited for him. I remember my first time job – how it made me feel that I was a contributing member to the human race, how it made me feel grown-up, how it made me feel important in some way. I hope it’s the same for him.
I hope he has learned the values of hard work and integrity in a job – to work hard at whatever you’re doing, to respect your bosses, to learn from your co-workers, to be on time to work. I hope he has learned the importance of saving some of that money he will now have. I hope he has learned that this is a whole new chapter in his life and to enjoy it, savor it, take it all in.
We should all spend more time thinking about our first full-time job. We should once again be excited about what we do. And I have to say, I am. I love what I do; I love the thought of helping people; I love the new friendships made by working with different clients; I love being able to do it on my time schedule and from where I choose to be.
I am doing what I love at this point in my life. I can only wish for the same when my son is my age. And I wish the same for you.
